New to Reformer Pilates? Here at Fusion Wellness, our Reformer Pilates classes are suitable for all skill levels – even if you’ve never stepped foot in a Pilates studio before.
If you’re a Reformer Pilates beginner, you may have some questions about the exercises involved, what to wear and how it works. Keep reading as we share the basics of Reformer Pilates for beginners, and what you can expect from your first Reformer Pilates class at our Casuarina Pilates studio.
What is Reformer Pilates?
Reformer Pilates is a style of Pilates that involves exercising with a bed-like piece of equipment known as a “reformer”. The reformer machine is made up of a flat sliding platform, a foot bar, and adjustable straps and pulleys.
How is Reformer Pilates different from Mat Pilates?
Both Mat and Reformer Pilates are great ways to increase your strength and fitness levels, but there are some key differences between the two. While Mat Pilates utilises your body weight for exercises, the reformer machine adds extra tension and resistance for a more dynamic and versatile workout.
Thanks to the modifications of the reformer machine, your workout can be tailored to suit your fitness and capability levels while targeting specific areas and smaller muscle groups. The resistance created by the reformer machine can also provide a more intense and challenging workout, and produce visible results sooner.
Our Casuarina Pilates studio offers both Mat and Reformer Pilates, so you can choose a class that suits your preferences.
Who is Reformer Pilates Best For?
Reformer Pilates is a great workout for absolutely anyone looking to improve their health and wellbeing. Our Casuarina Pilates studio welcomes people of all ages and fitness levels, from total beginners to Pilates pros!
Reformer Pilates is particularly suited to those looking to strengthen their core, increase flexibility, improve posture, lengthen and tone muscles and build endurance. Reformer Pilates can also be helpful for muscle rehabilitation, pre and post-natal support, and injury recovery.
What to Bring to Reformer Pilates Casuarina
Our Casuarina Pilates studio has all equipment provided. Simply bring your happy self, a water bottle and a towel.
If you’re a Pilates beginner, feel free to arrive 5-10 minutes early to introduce yourself. Our friendly instructors can give you a quick run-down of the reformer machine and how it works.
What to Wear to Reformer Pilates Casuarina
Not sure what to wear to your first Reformer Pilates class? Remember, you’ll be bending and flexing in various positions, so comfort is key. We’d recommend a stretchy pair of leggings paired with a fitted crop top or singlet. Keep in mind that some movements will require you to bend forward, so try to avoid loose clothing that will need constant adjusting.
When it comes to footwear, you can either go barefoot or wear grip socks. We’d also suggest tying your hair away from your face and removing any loose jewellery.
