I am 33 weeks pregnant and just discovered my baby is currently in a breech position! A breech baby 9 times out of ten ends up being a ceaser delivery. Until about 32 weeks about 18 per cent of babies lie this way, but by the time you are 37 weeks pregnant the number is down to about 3-4 per cent. Many breech babies spontaneously turn around before, or even during, labour without any assistance.

There are different types of breech fetal positions:

  • Complete breech – sitting cross legged in the womb
  • Kneeling breech – kneeling in the womb
  • Footling breech – feet first in the womb
  • Frank breech – butt first in the womb

There are a number of Fusion Wellness Yoga & Pilates poses and movements that can help encourage the baby to turn. Here are a few:

Child’s Pose and lift your butt high in the air

Downward Facing Dog

Pelvic Tilts back and forth rolling into a Bridge

Cat Pose arching your back up and down

Avoid squatting as this might encourage the baby to get more comfortable and wedge itself deeper down into its breech position. Discuss these options with your Doctor as every individual is different and you want to prepare for the safest birth possible!

On a physical level, prenatal Fusion Wellness Yoga and Pilates can reduce stress, improve sleep and assist with pregnancy-related symptoms such as nausea, backache, sciatica and carpel tunnel syndrome.
